perpetual december

On the linen page
The poet paints a vernal vision
The deepest green grassy hills
The most vivid blue alpine lakes
In the distance, lilac mountains
Snowcapped against the pastel sky

before his eyes
the pigments fade
to the more familiar
grey trees, grey snows,
and the grey skys
of perpetual december
